We wish to make use of our well-established knowledge and know-how at London Finance Center for Istanbul International Finance Center. For this purpose, we have created a study group. Investors in finance seek legal security, stability and transparency. These are our agenda items for Istanbul International Finance Center and we are ready for the necessary cooperation in order to have these arrangements in place. The reason why we have shown such close interest in this topic is our belief that even more grand achievements will be made thanks to the synergy to be created by multiple finance centers. That is the reason why we would like to be involved in cooperation in the establishment phase, infrastructural efforts and operating period with our financial institutions in the light of our experience in London.’
All Set to Make Istanbul a Finance Center
Stating his views on the visit by the Lord Mayor, Ali Ağaoğlu said: ‘It is a very significant development that the chairman of the London Finance Center, one of the most important centers of finance in the world, visited the Istanbul International Finance Center. This is an indicator that the will that has been demonstrated for the vision of Istanbul and the finance center project is progressing in the right direction. Today, Istanbul is going through a rapid progress to become an International Finance Center. For this purpose, very significant structural changes have been implemented. The Code of Commerce and Obligations has been revised and harmonized with international laws. Therefore, the financial instruments have become diverse. Tax advantages have been provided and Islamic financial instruments such as sukuk have been made ready for implementation. Thus, the financial and legal arrangements in addition to the physical infrastructure that we have built for Istanbul International Finance Center have been put into implementation. As a natural result of this, the interest in Istanbul from all corners of the world has increased.”
Underlining that Istanbul received as much attention as a finance center in the international arena as in the local banking scene, Ali Ağaoğlu stated that they received significant interest with the office they opened last week in Dubai and Istanbul International Finance Center during MIPIM, the international real estate fair in France that they participated in. Ağaoğlu said: “Istanbul is strengthening its position in the global arena each and every day, thus becoming one of the new centers of the global economy. During our meeting with the Lord Mayor, we saw that the UK also wanted to be involved in the Istanbul International Finance Center and wanted to support us in this process. Last week, we had some contacts with the Islamic Development Bank, they also wanted to be involved in the Istanbul International Finance Center.”
