Feridun Bilgin, the Minister for Maritime Affairs and Communication, stated that the project work for Gayrettepe – 3rd Airport metro line, which would provide transport access to the 3rd Airport in Istanbul and contribute to the resolution of the traffic problems of Istanbul, had begun.
In the statement made by Minister Bilgin to an AA correspondent, he said that the tender for the project construction of Gayrettepe – 3rd Airport metro line, being undertaken by the Ministry for the purposes of providing easy transport access to the Istanbul 3rd Airport and making transportation within the city easier, had been set in motion, and concluded on 27 July.
Gayrettepe – 3rd Airport is 26 minutes with the fast metro
Emphasizing that the project is a very important step for transport access to the 3rd Airport, Bilgin said “This railway system will be a project providing fast transport access to the 3rd Airport and taking the residents of Istanbul to the airport from the central points of the city in a very short time.”
Stating that Gayrettepe – 3rd airport line would be approximately 33 kilometers long, Bilgin said that it would take 26 minutes to reach one point from the other.
3rd Airport will become closer to everywhere
Bilgin, who stated that fast metro vehicles, reaching up to 120 kilometers per hour, would be used on the line, and said that when 3rd Airport – Gayrettepe metro line is completed, it would also be integrated with the other metro lines in Istanbul, and that the residents of Istanbul would be able to reach the 3rd Airport in a very short time, both from the European and the Asian side.
It is planned that the project construction work will be completed within a maximum of 1 year, and that the tender for the construction of the said line be held in 2016.
