Hilmi Türkmen, the Mayor of Üsküdar, said, “Üsküdar – Çekmeköy – Ümraniye metro will open for service in the last quarter of 2016, around September – October. Once the projects have gone into service, property prices in Üsküdar will rise by around 30-40 percent.”
Stating that work was continuing at an intensive pace, and that the plan was for the metro to be opened in full rather than stage by stage, Türkmen said, “It will be the first smart metro in Turkey. The wagons will move by being remotely controlled from a central system, without a driver.”
Property Prices Rising around 300 – 500 Percent
Türkmen stated that the removal of the transmitters and aerials on the hills of Çamlıca was a matter which had been talked about for years and added that studies had been carried out on this matter both at the municipality and the ministerial level. He also said that the final decision had been made, and that the transmitters would be removed from there when Çamlıca Mosque opened.
Expressing that big projects such as Marmaray, metro and Eurasian tunnel had made Üsküdar a center of attraction, Türkmen said, “They say the streets of Istanbul are paved with gold. Well, those in Üsküdar are paved with rubies. The railway systems and Çamlıca Mosque have increased property prices in Üsküdar. The price of land around Çamlıca has risen by around 300 – 500 percent. Once these projects have gone into service, the prices of properties in Üsküdar will rise by around a further 30-40 percent.”
